Murray Tops Baghdatis in Latest Wimbledon Match Ever

WIMBLEDON -  At the latest match in Wimbledon history, Britain’s Andy Murray defeated Marcos Baghdatis 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. The match ended at 11:02 pm on Saturday under the closed roof of Centre Court.

The curfew says that play under the roof must end at 11:00 pm but the tournament organizers let the match continue past the time to let Murray serve out the match.

“Yeah, it was tough obviously for both of us,” said Murray.  “You know, the conditions are tricky the first couple of sets.  It was very windy.”

“Obviously the roof, I think the quality of tennis improved under the roof.  I was under the impression I was stopping at 11:00 regardless of what the score was.  Even if it was in the middle of a game.

“But, yeah, obviously glad that I managed to get the finish.  And, you know, the atmosphere at the end was excellent.”

Murray will play Marin Cilic in the round of 16 on Monday.
