WIMBLEDON – In a match completed in the evening under the roof and under the lights, No. 1 Novak Djokovic defeated Ryan Harrison 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the third round of Wimbledon.
The match ran late due to the rain in the afternoon.
â€I thought he played really well,†noted the Serbian. He had his chances in the second set.
“But other than that game I thought I served really well. I was winning comfortably my service games, which is encouraging fact for the next rounds.
“You know, he had the high percentage of the first serve, very efficient. It was a little bit of a different condition. Under the roof when you’re playing it’s a bit more humid, so you have to adjust your movement. The ball, I think, travels through the air because of this humidity a bit slower, balls get a little bit bigger.
“But it was great to be under the roof once again. I thought it was a very exciting match to be a part of as a player, and I thought the crowd enjoyed it as well.â€
Djokovic was never broken during the match.
Andy Roddick also moved on completing a match carried over from Tuesday. Roddick beat Jamie Baker of Great Britain 7-6(1), 6-4, 7-5.
“I feel like I played a match and a half ‑‑ or a set and a half yesterday and a set and a half today,†Roddick said.
“You just kind of chill out, and when they say, Go, you go. I’m not sure it’s rocket science how to get through it. It’s frustrating for everybody.
I thought he played really well. Came out and was aggressive. I’m happy to get through.â€
Stanislas Wawrinka was the only seed to fall on Wednesday. The 25th seed was beaten by Jurgen Melzer 3-6, 7-6(2), 2-6, 6-4, 8-6.
