FLUSHING MEADOWS, NY – Novak Djokovic has moved into his third straight US Open final with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 victory over No. 4 seed David Ferrer of Spain on Sunday.
The match was suspended on Saturday afternoon due to a severe weather conditions due to an on-coming storm with Ferrer leading 5-2 in the first set. The blustery conditions frustrated the Serb who could not control his shots.
The match picked up on Sunday morning with Ferrer holding serve to complete the first set 6-2.
The change in weather conditions did wonders for Djokovic’s game on Sunday. The sunny and calm conditions woke up Djokvic’s game as he dominated the match the rest of the way, winning 18 of next 25 games.
Monday’s final will pit Djokovic against Olympic gold medalist Andy Murray.
This will be Djokovc’s fourth US Open final, ninth major final overall. The Serb has won five majors – three Australian Opens (2008, 2011, 2012), a Wimbledon title (2011) and a US Open title (2011).
Andy Murray will be in his second US Open final, looking for his first major title. This will be his fifth major final.
