The week Roger Federer is the cover boy for ESPN the magazine he’s knocked out in his first match in Rome by up-and-comer Latvian Ernests Gulbis. It took Ernests seven match points, but eventually felled Federer 26, 61, 75. Bad start of the clay season for Fed.

Ernest Gulbis had a “Masters” career week in Rome from knocking out Roger Federer in the second round to pushing Rafael Nadal to three sets in the semis.

What a week for Feliciano Lopez – he’s going to be a father. His ex-girlfriend former Miss Spain Maria JoseSuarez is the Mom-to-be. He advanced to the quarterfinals of a clay court tournament by upsetting Maron Cilic and getting a walkover from Ivan Ljubicic when he was injured in the warm-up. F-Lo’s week came to end when Latvia’s Ernest Gulbis walked all over him in the quarters.

Rafael Nadal! Nadal dropped one set the entire week and that was to Ernests Gulbis in the semis. It was a cakewalk against the rest of his challengers. Nadal will have the chance to break the record for total number of Masters series titles in Madrid in less than two weeks.
