People Magazine reports that Serena Williams was treated in the emergency room of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles suffering a blood clot in her lungs.
Williams attended Elton Johnâ€™s AIDs Foundation Oscar viewing party on Sunday Williams and she felt ill on Monday.
Nicole Chabot representing Williams told People magazine -“Monday Serena Williams underwent emergency treatment at Cedars [Medical Center] for a hematoma she suffered as a result of treatment for a more critical situation.”
“Last week, Serena suffered from a pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lungs) which was discovered upon her return to L.A. She had been in New York for doctor appointments for the ongoing issues with her foot.”
Williams was hoping to make a return to the WTA Tour in time to play the French Open. Williams recently had a cast removed from her right foot. She injured the foot after cutting it on broken glass at a restaurant in Germany after Winning the Wimbledon championship. The former No. 1 in the world winner of 37 WTA titles is currently ranked No. 12.
