Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Mona Barthel Net Titles
(May 6, 2017) Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Mona Barthel won singles titles on the WTA Tour this week.
Pavlyuchenkova won the Grand Prix De SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem beating 2010 French Open champion Francesca Schiavone 7-5, 7-5. It was the Russian’s 10th career title.
“We’ve had tough matches before in the past on clay, so I knew it was going to be tough,” the said the winner during the trophy ceremony. “I’m so happy and relieved I won. It’s always nice to win a title, any match – a win is a win, I always say. I love to win, so I’m happy and enjoying this moment now.”
German qualifier Mona Barthel won the Prague Open on Saturday, defeating unseeded Kristyna Pliskova of the Czech Republic 2-6, 7-5, 6-2. For the German it was her fourth career title on the WTA Tour, her first since three years ago.
The 82nd ranked player in the world, Barthel saved three match points during her second round of qualifying.
