MARDY FISH, KIRSTEN FLIPKENS RALLY NEW YORK EMPIRE TO A 21-20 WIN IN PHILADELPHIA
PHILADELPHIA (July 17, 2017) – Kirsten Flipkens and Mardy Fish rallied the New York Empire presented by Citi to a 21-20 win against the Philadelphia Freedoms to improve to 2-0 in the 2017 Mylan World TeamTennis presented by GEICO season.
Down 15-11 entering the women’s singles and fourth set, Flipkens wasted little time earning a 5-1 game victory over the Freedoms’ Sloane Stephens. Flipkens eliminated the four-point deficit the NY Empire faced as Fish prepared to face Philadelphia’s Donald Young in the men’s singles and final set.
Fish snuck out a 5-4 final-set win to earn the second-straight victory over the Freedoms for the New York Empire, 21-20.
