Andy Murray and Marin Cilic Withdraw From Rogers Cup
Montreal, August 3, 2017 – Tennis Canada announced Thursday that World No. 1 Andy Murray and world no. 6 Marin Cilic have withdrawn from Rogers Cup presented by National Bank.
This is the second consecutive year that Murray will miss Canada’s Masters 1000 event after competing in the tournament every year from 2006-2016. The Scot needs more time to heal his hip injury.
“I am sad to be missing the tournament in Montreal because I have many great memories from my time in Canada. I am doing everything I can to return as quickly as possible” said Murray.
Following the withdrawal of Murray, Rafael Nadal (ESP) and Roger Federer (SUI) will now be the top two seeds in Montreal and will be placed at the top and bottom of the draw. Rising stars Dominic Thiem (AUT) and Alexander Zverev (GER) will round out the top 4.
Other players who previously withdrew from Rogers Cup include Stan Wawrinka and Maria Sharapova.
