(August 9, 2017) Two-time Western & Southern Open champion, Andy Murray has withdrawn from the tournament with an ongoing hip injury.
“Unfortunately I won’t be playing in Cincinnati as I continue my recovery,” Murray said in a media release. “I always enjoy playing there and I look forward to returning next year. I’m continuing to work hard on the court with the aim of being in New York.”
Rafael Nadal, 2013 winner, will be the No. 1 seed in Cincinnati. Roger Federer, seven-time champion, will be the No. 2 seed. Nadal could reach No. 1 in the world this week, should he reach the Montreal semifinals.
This marks the first time Nadal and Federer are the top two seeds in Cincinnati since 2009.
