Kateryna Bondarenko Wins in Tashkent, for Second Career WTA Title
(September 30, 2017) Kateryna Bondarenko won her first WTA singles title in nine years on Saturday when she defeated Timea Babos of Hungary 6-4, 6-4 in the final of the Tashkent Open.
This is the Ukrainian’s first singles title since claiming the Birmingham title in 2008. For world No. 52 Babos, this was her third final of the year. Babos falls to 2-4 in WTA finals, also finishing runner-up this year in Québec City and winning Budapest.
Babos did take home a trophy – she won the doubles title with Andrea Hlavackova for her 14th career doubles crown.
