She does not strike the ball with the authority and force of some WTA players, but she has the ability to chase down shots. Friday night at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells California No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki met Maria Sharapova to play for a spot in the Women’s Final.
The much hyped meeting was an utter disappointment. Sharapova did control most of the rallies. What did Wozniacki do? She blocked the “power shots” back to Sharapova and let her make the mistakes – 41of them. The Russian held serve once in the match. For Sharapova, playing Wozniacki was as though she were doing battle against at wall – the wall always gets the ball back and always wins.
Game, set, match – Wozniacki 6-1, 6-2. The Dane will face surprise finalist from France Marion Bartoli who stopped Yanina Wickmayer 6-1, 6-3, for the title on Sunday.
